Michelle Reed Bachelor of Arts
Biography
Michelle Reed was lucky enough to grow up in one of the few small towns with a thriving orchestra program in Klamath Falls, OR. She started playing violin in 5th grade orchestra, and was quickly captured by the tones and feel of the instrument, as well as the friendships and dedication that come from progressing in a musical ensemble.
In 2011, Michelle began assistant-teaching orchestras from the elementary to high school levels, taking on private students, as well as teaching with, and later becoming the director of, the annual Klamath Falls Summer Strings Camp. Throughout this time she recognized her deep passion for teaching, and moved up North to finish her B.A. from Western Oregon University, studying violin while earning her degree in visual arts in 2015.
Since moving to the Salem area, Michelle spent three years teaching private lessons at the Northwest School of Music before branching out with her own studio in 2020. Aside from private teaching, Michelle also directs the Middle School Orchestra at Abiqua Academy.
Performance Experience
Michelle has had the pleasure of performing in the Klamath Symphony, the Ross Ragland Theatre Pit Orchestra, the Western Oregon Symphony, the Salem Orchestra, the Salem Philharmonia, the Rainy Day String Quartet, and is currently a member of the Verdant Quartet. In addition to classical music, she has played as a member of the chamber-rock band Yaquina Bay, completing two albums and four full West-Coast tours
What am I up to now?
I am very excited to be teaching from my new private studio to fully dedicate myself to my students and practice.
Working in collaboration with other Salem private music teachers, I am building the groundwork to help create more performance and enrichment opportunities for students in my studio as well as others in the area.
On the side, I am working on a long-term project illustrating a serious of music for young violinists. I hope to share this with students and teachers in the near future!
I am continually striving to strengthen my own practice habits and technique, and am studying violin performance and pedagogy with Eugene violinist Yvonne Hsueh.
